Ulunthi (Mavelikara)

On 18th August our team left for Ullunthi (Mavelikara) in Kollam district. The Camp there was cut off as the roads were no more navigable. We had been told that without a two-engine boat, it impossible to cross the river which was in spate and had strong water current. So, we loaded the materials in the boat and took it by river to the camp. The boat ride took over twenty minutes one way and we made over five sorties to bring all the materials. The people were very much relieved as we were the only ones then to bring relief materials to Ulunthi. There were over 600 people in two camps. We had taken food provisions, dress materials etc as we had been told exactly what to bring.
