Fishermen Community Development Programme (FCDP) was founded in the year 1979, under the guidance and leadership of the Salesians of Don Bosco. The beginning of FCDP goes back to the various social upliftment activities undertaken by the Salesians of Don Bosco after their arrival at Thope, Kollam in 1975. In 1979 these social development programmes were given the formal name “Fishermen community Development Programme”. The various programmes are geared to benefit every section of the fishing community (men, women, youth and children) living in the coastal belt by helping them to improve their education, health, culture, economic status, employment opportunities, social awareness and social action. On 14 November 1984 FCDP was registered under the Travancore - Cochin literary, scientific, charitable societies’ registration Act 1955. The various activities of FCDP for the past 40 years have brought about many wholesome changes in this coastal region.
