E-auto rickshaw driving training for women was flagged off on 16.11.2020 by the Kollam Regional Transport Officer – Mr. Rajeev at a small function hosted by Fishermen Community Development Programme. As part of the FCDP’s project - Women and Youth Empowerment Programme, auto rickshaw driving training that was temporarily suspended due to the pandemic, was resumed for more women to get e-auto license. Fr. Joby (Director), in his keynote address, appreciated the women who broke the gender role stereotypes and were ready to start their training. Mr. Rajeev (RTO, Kollam) addressed the meeting with a message that e-auto was not only eco-friendly but also the most common means of transport a common person can think of. He congratulated the women for having cleared their learners' tests and for showing the courage to not just learn a new skill but make use of it. Present at the function were also Dr.Sindha Mendez (Chairperson, FCDP), Mr. Vinod (Owner of Sreekala Driving School), Sr.. Mary K (Ast. Director, TMS), and Mr. Anoopraj (Project Coordinator, Women and Youth Empowerment Programme), apart from the e-auto learning women aspirants. The e-auto driving training was started soon after the programme.
