Protest against Vizhinjam port - 25 October 2022

A strike was held by the Vizhinjam Solidarity Committee in front of the Kollam Collectorate on October 25 and FCDP members also participated with full support. The fishermen have started the strike taking into account the problems that may arise in the future due to the Vizhinjam project. One of the main problems being faced by a large section of the fishing community was the loss of their homes to the sea and to address that directions have been issued to allocate land by August 22 for the construction of flats for them. But the losses already incurred in the fisheries sector due to this project are huge. After the construction of Vizhinjam port, 261 houses were destroyed and 86 houses were partially destroyed. Similarly, 126 refugee families are staying in the old cement warehouse and schools in Valiyathura.
