Theeradesa Mahila Society along with FCDP, Kollam celebrated International Women's Day on 7th March 2020. The program organized in collaboration with the Kollam Excise Department and District Legal Services Society began with the scooter rally of women which was flagged off by Smt. Jijimol (Circle Inspector, City Police) the scooter rally started at 4.30 pm from Kollam Kollam and more than 100 participants. This was followed by the awareness rally attended by more than 700 women. The rally consisting of floats and tableaux was flagged off from the Thangassery bus bay by Sub-Judge Smt. Subitha Chirakkal.
The rally culminated with the public meeting held at the Kodimaram ground, Pallithottam. Shri. N. K. Premachandran (Hon. M.P., Kollam) inaugurated the meeting. He appreciated the work done by TMS and FCDP towards women empowerment.
Smt. Shahida Kamal (Hon. Member, Women's Commission) inaugurated the project 'N.E.T.S :- Nurture, Educate and Transform Society, a new initiative by FCDP' which aims at a Substance abuse and Alcohol free fisher folk community of Kollam. In the function Mrs. Jane Lawrence and Mrs. Mable Xavier were honored for their contributions to the Theeradesa Mahila Society and the Fishermen Community Development Program. Shri. Binu George (Motor Vehicle Inspector, Kollam) distributed driving licenses to women who already passed the driving test.
Shri. Shaji J Varghese (Excise Asst. Commissioner & co-ordinator vimukthi), Fr. Sunny Uppen (Vicar, St. Stephen's Church, Thope) and Councilors Adv. Sheeba Antony, Adv. Vinitha Vincent, Smt. Shantini Shubhadevan, Dr. Sintha Mendez (Chairperson, FCDP) and Smt. Agnes John (President of TMS) Fr. Joby Sebastian (Director of FCDP) spoke at the function. Cultural programs by Don Bosco Youth Forum and Children's forum added color to the program.
